'ARMED' RAIDER TARGETS STORE
By David Clegg
A BUSINESSMAN — whose Christmas was ruined by a disastrous run of misfortune — has been hit by another stroke of bad luck.
After suffering a destructive fire and a devastating flood, cursed Stewart Harris last week faced another threat to his business — an armed robber.
Last December, the Reporter revealed one part of the entrepreneur's operation burned down in front of his eyes, while torrential rain put another wing under 3ft of water.
The string of bad luck all took place in less than a week.
Now his new business, which only opened four weeks ago, has been targeted by a would-be robber who claimed to have a gun.
Stewart said: `When I heard the news I just thought 'won't someone please give me a break'.`
The attempted robbery took place last Tuesday at the new premises of Totally Tartan Kiltmakers, which relocated to Lomond Galleries after the original store in Antartex Village was wiped out by the flood.
Stewart said: `At about 3.30pm a man in a hooded top and red scarf came in threatening my staff member and said he was here to hold us up. He said he had a gun and held his arm in such a way she couldn't tell if he was telling the truth or not.`
The man then demanded money and continued to act threateningly until he was startled by another customer.
Stewart, who lives in Alexandria with his partner and three children, says the premises will now install CCTV coverage to improve security.
