£1,000s stolen in morning hold-up

POLICE are hunting a knife-wielding robber who threatened staff at a food store before making off with more than £10,000.

The early-morning robbery happened just after 8am on Sunday when a man entered the Co-op Foodstore at Argyll Street in Alexandria and threatened a 40-year-old woman who was working in the shop.

The raider produced the knife and demanded cash.

After netting the massive five-figure haul he is said to have fled on foot in the direction of Argyll Park.

The female victim is said to have been `badly shaken` by the incident, but did not require medical treatment.

Detective Constable Iain Lobban, who is leading the investigation into the robbery, asked for any witnesses to come forward.

He said: `I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the suspect enter or leave the store.`

The suspect is described as being between 6ft and 6ft 4ins, with short fair hair, blue eyes, wearing a leather jacket, a black hat and black jogging trousers.
