A CABIN cruiser on the River Leven has been torched by vandals throwing petrol bombs.

Fire fighters had to use a boat to fight the blaze at around 5pm on Wednesday aboard a glass fibre vessel just beneath Lomond Bridge at Balloch.

An eyewitness, who took these dramatic photographs, said: “This is yet another boat on fire in the River Leven at Balloch. This incident proved a bit awkward for firemen as the boat was on the inner side of the bridge pillar.”

Police are looking for between two and three young people, aged between 12 and 18, who are believed to have been responsible.

They are described as wearing light clothing and were seen running away at the time of the blaze.

A police spokesperson confirmed that an “accelerant” was used to set the fire and that inquiries are continuing.

The latest boat fire followed an incident two weeks ago when two Clydebank pensioners were seriously injured after their 24ft vessel exploded also in the Leven at Balloch.
