TRAFFIC LIGHTS PLANNED FOR ROUNDABOUT
By Steve McElroy
PLANS are underway to install a complicated traffic light system on the area’s busiest roundabout.
If the move is given the green light, the Barloan roundabout on the A82 could resemble its neighbour on Kilbowie Road in Clydebank.
The “totally unacceptable” proposal is the third attempt by the Walker Group to create an access route down Gooseholm Road as a part of a multi-million pound housing project.
Two previous applications, which came before West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) planning committee, were both rejected by councillors following complaints by residents in Gooseholm.
Objector William Porter, who lives in Gooseholm Road, said of the latest application: “The developers have ignored the fact that Gooseholm Road and Townend Road is a bottleneck.`
One of the area’s councillors, George Black, pledged to support the residents in their campaign against the plans.
He told the Reporter: “This proposal is totally unacceptable. I will take part in any protest and give my support to any campaign organised by the residents to stop this proposal in its tracks.”
Although the householders are not against the development of approximately 350 houses and a new roundabout to be built further up the A82, they are opposed to what they claim would be a dramatic increase in traffic passing their homes.
Along with the traffic light system, the work would include extending Gooseholm Road and re-prioritising the junction with Gooseholm Crescent by highlighting a yellow box-grid.
