TRIAL: Burry has been fighting deportation

CONVICTED child abuser Courtney Burry is facing jail after allegedly failing to tell cops of his whereabouts.

Burry, 41, will be tried at Dumbarton Sheriff Court next week on three separate charges, including two alleged infringements of the Sex Offenders Act 2003.

The Jamaican national — who was caged in 1996 for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl — is required to tell police where he is living under the terms of the legislation.

However, it is alleged he failed to notify the authorities for a full year — between August 30, 2005, and August 28 2006 — and more recently between November 22 and 25 this year.

His lawyer Tom Brown told the court that Burry pleaded not guilty to the complaints, which include his alleged failing to appear at the same court on November 7 this year.

The shamed pervert came to Britain in 1991 after marrying a British holidaymaker and setting up home in England.

He was given “indefinite leave” to remain in the country following the birth of their son, however they divorced following his conviction for abusing the young girl in 1996.

He moved to Silverton in 2000 — just a short distance from St Patrick’s Primary in Crosslet Road — two years after being released from jail and remarrying.

Since being convicted Burry has lost several immigration appeals but has nevertheless thwarted efforts by the Home Office to deport him.

He spent time in the Dungavel Detention Centre in South Lanarkshire earlier this year after immigration officials swooped on his address.

He faced an immigration appeal on June 29 this year, however he has remained in the UK and the Home Office refused to confirm if the case against him was on-going.

Burry has always maintained that if he returned to his homeland the stigma surrounding paedophiles would put his life at risk.

The trial of Burry, whose address was given as Crosslet Road, will take place on Thursday December 20.
