FAT JIBES LED TO DOUBLE STABBING

TWO brothers — one who had only been released from prison hours earlier — stabbed two men during a whirlwind of savage violence.

First, younger brother Dale Montague, 20, stabbed his cousin Joseph Melville, 24, more than 30 times with a screwdriver during a frenzied attack for making jibes about his weight.

Far from laying low the two brothers, only hours later, made their way to the home of Ross McCutcheon at Merkins Avenue, Dumbarton, the High Court in Glasgow heard.

He heard banging at the common close door and recognised Paul Montague’s voice shouting “I’m gonnae kill you”, before banging started at the door to his flat.

Fearing for his safety, Mr McCutcheon called the police and grabbed a knife from his kitchen before opening the door to see Paul Montague brandishing a small steak knife.

The two men struggled with each other and fell down a flight of stairs before both men stabbed each other.

Dale Montague, 20, admitted stabbing Mr Melville to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life on January 14.

His brother Paul Montague, 22, also admitted stabbing Ross McCutcheon, 26, and committing a breach of the peace later the same evening.

Judge Lord Turnbull deferred sentence on the two men until next month for background reports.

Defence counsel, Ronnie Renucci and Bob McCormack, will give their pleas in mitigation then.

Both Montagues are currently in Greenock Prison.
