A SON of the Rock is hoping to see some old faces at a new ground in a bid to raise money for a good cause.
Having seen the pain and distress Cystic Fibrosis (CF) can cause, an ex-Dumbarton FC player Stuart McIver plans to hold a charity football match to help those who have been diagnosed with the disease.
Stuart, 41, was a goal-scoring stalwart for the Sons in his day, is hoping that some fellow Burgh legends will join the cause to gather funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
September is earmarked for a match between some of the great Sons players and other football legends and celebrities with swashbuckling John Smeaton already been confirmed as playing.
Stuart
Ex-striker Stuart, who played for the Sons for seven years during the late 80s and early 90s, is a member of the West Dunbartonshire branch of the CF Trust.
Stuart told the Reporter he hopes to sign up Sons legends Murdo MacLeod and Owen Coyle, to earn money for those with the incurable illness.
CF is close to home for Stuart — who has seen Kelli, the daughter of a close family friend — and a fellow CF Trust member suffer with the condition her whole life.
Strathclyde Homes Stadium has been tipped as a possible venue for the match, while talks between the CF Trust and Jim Chapman — current Dumbarton manager — will take place about the match in the coming months.
Any ex-Sons or others interested in getting involved, should call Stuart on 0777 156 1054.
