Teen could have lain dead for hours

QUESTIONS have been raised over the care taken of Chad Hyslop while he was in police custody last year as the Fatal Accident Inquiry entered its third week.

Constable James Bolling, who believes he is the last police officer to see Chad alive, told Sheriff Simon Pender that he had spoken to the 19-year-old less than an hour before he was discovered to be dead.

But expert evidence from doctors later threw doubts over whether it would have been possible for Chad to have spoken to anyone at that point.

In fact, it was suggested the teenager could have been dead for hours before it was noticed.

The third week of the inquiry included evidence from Dr John Clarke, the Crown pathologist who carried out a post mortem on Chad.

Although the doctor admitted that the exact time of Chad’s death was impossible to establish, he did cast doubts over Constable Bolling’s claim to have spoken to Chad at 7.50am on Sunday February 25 2007.

Evidence which again outlined Chad’s cell-mate Robert Hastings, 34, as the source of the fatal heroin were heard, and other police officers — including a drugs expert — appeared at the FAI.

The inquiry is to continue today (Tuesday) at Dumbartons Municipal Buildings.
