Residents show support

A VISION n to transform a town centre back into a bustling market town has been given a nod of approval from residents.

Cordale Housing Association (CHA) received unanimous support from a group of Alexandria residents after pitching its plans for the town centre.

Along with the vision of the Alexandria regeneration forum, Cordale wants a three-storey medical centre on the old Kippen Dairy site, which will provide a “hub” for the surrounding area.

However, strong opposition to the plan from the NHS, which wishes to build the medical centre at the Vale of Leven Hospital has resulted in Cordale creating a “plan B”.

If the construction of the medical centre is unattainable the housing firm hopes to build residential and retail facilities, and create a civic square on the dairy land.

When asked who supported the idea of the medical centre on the Kippen Dairy site at the meeting, a forest of hands sprouted up towards the ceiling of the heavenly surroundings.

The firm’s “Plan B” would have a civic square on the former Kippen dairy site that could be used as an area for market traders which could create a bustling and vibrant scene in the Vale.

CHA also hopes to demolish ageing flats at Creveul Court and replace them with 26 to 40 specialist extra care homes which would open up Susannah Street, however this would require permission from the council to demolish the court.

Currently they are only offering surplus trading stock to convert the ground floor units at the court.
