Drinker's Old Firm bar rammy

AN enraged bare-chested drinker waved two kitchen knives in a stabbing motion at alarmed pub customers after an Old Firm match day row.

The initial altercation between Mark Brooks and other drinkers took place after the game, but the 29-year-old accused left the pub.

However, he returned at around 6.45pm armed with two blades.

Intimidated punters looked on in horror as Brooks then stabbed one of the knives in to a pool table with such force that it broke the blade.

Gillian Climie, fiscal depute told Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Thursday that the staff were immediately concerned and activated the raid alarm which notified police.

But by the time they got to the premises Brooks had left.

Cops managed to catch up with the accused later in the evening and noticed he had a cut above his left eye, which Brook’s defence lawyer said came as a result of the initial argument in the Station Bar, Renton.

Police took Brooks into custody and retrieved the CCTV footage from the pub which had captured the incident.

Brooks pled guilty to the possession of a bladed weapon in a public place.

It was noted in court that the second knife was never recovered.

Roddy Boag, defending said: “The social enquiry report indicates it is an offence that could not have been predicted from his previous behaviour.”

Mr Boag described Brooks as a hard working person in stable employment, with a good family background.

He added that Brooks had been assaulted before he returned to the bar on Saturday March 29 and when police arrested him, he co-operated fully.

Brooks, of Flat 6, 5 Creveul Court, Alexandria, was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
