A MUSIC fan offered up his Cardross home as a gig venue for an up-and-coming singer songwriter.

Around 50 folk packed into Alastair Moodie’s cottage for the unique experience, which could become a popular model for the future of live music.

Alastair read about the British tour planned by Jont on the internet — where he only plays in people’s houses.

Alastair was one of 300 people who put forward their property for a gig and Jont — full name Jont Whittington — decided that Cardross would be the ideal location for his first Scottish show.

Alastair, 29 told the Reporter: “I had thought before about doing the same kind of thing myself because it gives musicians an excellent opportunity to play live in front of other people.”

Jont, 35, is a well-travelled troubadour from London who first tested his touring idea in the United States.

The idea has proved popular and his UK Unlit tour is sponsored by phone giant Orange and is taking place over four weeks.

On choosing Alastair’s home for his first trip to Scotland, Jont said: “Al seemed like a really nice guy and I definitely wanted to do one of the eight Unlit gigs in Scotland. Al’s offer of his cottage in Cardross was the best of the offers we had.

“This show was by far one of the best we have ever done.”

Jont’s gigging model is getting a lot of attention and he was recently in negotiations with music mogul Simon Fuller regarding a TV show based on it.
