£30m Vale vision

A VISION to pump £30m into the Vale of Leven Hospital has been revealed by health bosses.
The proposals, which could see up to 16,000 additional patients coming through the hospital’s doors, include additional surgical, dental and cancer services, as well as a £15m care home for the elderly and 24-hour GP-led unit.
But activists want NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) bosses to reconsider their preference to cut specialist on-site anaesthetic care, which an Independent Review claimed was “unsustainable”.
This move could result in a fall of patient numbers at the Alexandria hospital, with patients travelling to the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Paisley for care.
Jim Moohan, of Hospitalwatch, believes that the new proposals are a step in the right direction, but believes there is still a long way to go.

This will be followed up by public consultation from October 31 this year, which will then be assessed by February 2009.
Tom Divers, GGC chief executive, said: “This vision sets out an ambitious plan for the Vale of Leven campus which will end years of uncertainty for staff patient and hospital supporters and see the Vale continue to be a vibrant and busy site."
