Teen had meat cleaver
By Court Reporter
A RAGING teenager produced a meat cleaver and knife after a row with a neighbour he claimed had attempted to knock down his younger brother.
Fired-up Archibald Wilson, 17, and his pal Kevin Wilson, 18 — no relation — confronted the man who had just passed the pair and a number of other youths in his car.
After getting out of his motor outside his home, the neighbour saw that Kevin Wilson was brandishing a stick and went into his house, Maggie Porter, depute fiscal, told Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
Ms Porter told how, concerned about what might be going on outside, the man looked out to see one of his car windows being “smashed” by Archibald Wilson, who was now carrying a knife and a meat cleaver.
When police arrived they found the two weapons in Archibald Wilson’s home.
Archibald Wilson’s lawyer said his client believed the driver had driven into Allan Street, Renton, at excessive speed and claimed he nearly hit his younger brother.
The lawyer also claimed that his client only obtained the weapons, which he took from his mother’s house, after the complainer had gone into his house.
The lawyer added that his client fully recognised that it was a bad error of judgement.
Archibald Wilson pled guilty to placing the complainer in a state of fear and alarm and possessing a knife and a meat cleaver on December 28 last year.
Sentencing him Sheriff Fraser told the 17-year-old, of 15 Allan Crescent, Renton: “When people are armed with these types of weapons and they are in the wrong hands they can be very dangerous.”
He was ordered to serve seven months in a young offenders institute.
Meanwhile, co-accused Kevin Wilson pled guilty to placing the complainer in a sate of fear and alarm, whilst on bail from a previous offence.
Kevin Wilson’s lawyer Bert Thomson said that this incident happened when his client was very immature.
Mr Thomson added that his client had had an extremely difficult childhood and he believed Wilson would be able to sort himself out.
Sheriff Fraser sentenced Kevin Wilson, of 7B Overtoun Court, Clydebank, to carry out 200 hours community service.
