Top gong for Vale nurse

Linda with her award
A KIND‑HEARTED nurse feels like she has won a Bafta after scooping a top award at a glitzy ceremony.
Linda Harley, a cardiac rehabilitation nurse, picked up the gong on Thursday night for her tireless dedication to her patients.
Although not part of a team, Linda was presented with the Heart Disease Team Award by newsreader Jackie Bird in front of more than 600 guests.
She was nominated for the gong by fellow nurse at the Vale of Leven Hospital, Milly McPherson.
But Linda told the Reporter she was shocked when her name was read out.
She said: “I completely froze and couldn’t move from my seat.
“I hadn’t written a speech or anything because I was utterly convinced I wouldn’t win.
“I just stood there totally shocked and thanked Milly for nominating me because I couldn’t say anything else.
“I took my mum along and she loved every minute.”
Milly, who nominated Linda, added: “It was a fantastic night and the ceremony was unbelievable, they really went all out with the flowers and champagne.
“Linda was up against a team from Aberdeen and a cardiologist from Stirling, so she did brilliantly to win.”
Linda has been taking care of patients recovering from heart disease for more than 30 years and she regularly follows up their treatment with visits to them at home.
But she added: “We’ve got such a hard-working team at the hospital and I feel like they’ve been honoured with this award as well.”
