Bonhill wind farm plans move step closer
By Ewan McInnes
Doreen Hopwood has been against the plans since they were announced
THE businessman behind controversial proposals to build a wind farm in Bonhill has met with residents for the first time.
Howard Davis discussed his plans with the New Bonhill Regeneration Group (NBRG), which could create up to £425,000 for the community annually.
But despite a positive meeting, some residents are still unsure of the development, which Mr Davis is set to benefit from financially by selling on the electricity generated from the turbines to the National Grid.
Doreen Hopwood, recycling campaigner from Balloch, has been against the proposals since they were revealed in September.
She told the Reporter: “[Howard Davis] is obviously going to come up here and set out his stall because he is a businessman and wants to make money.
“But the reality is windfarms are not efficient and in my opinion they are not suitable to be next to Loch Lomond.”
Eric Watson, NBRG member, added: “There are concerns, but until we see the visualisation, which will come after the Planning Committee meeting, then we won’t know what kind of impact it will have on our community."
However, Mr Davis told the Reporter he was glad to meet with the NBRG and get some feedback from residents.
He told the Reporter: “It was a pleasure to meet a group of people so passionate and committed to improving the environment of Bonhill.
“I look forward to working closely with the group in the future.”
The proposals for the wind farm are expected to go to the council’s Planning Committee in the coming weeks.
