JOHN IS SORRY AT LEAVING
By GARE CLYDE
A FAVOURITE Son parted company with Dumbarton last week when John Dillon was told that his productive, enthusiastic and very consistent eight year span with the club was over.
I caught up with JD in Ireland at the weekend where he was visiting relatives.
John said: “I have absolutely no regrets over my time at Dumbarton. I enjoyed it, the fans were great to me, and I made many friends.
“Obviously I feel sad about leaving the club after so many years, but I will move on and that is part and parcel of football.
“I leave the club with many happy memories and I look forward to continuing my senior career elsewhere.”
Freed only on Thursday, John has already had offers from a second division club and one from the third division, and there are another couple in the pipeline.
“I am keen to continue playing,” said the dapper, fleet-footed left flank man who has always been a favourite with the fans.
“I will take time to think about my future in the game, and while I cannot reveal the clubs who have so far been in touch with me, I am happy in the knowledge that there will be football life for me after the Sons.”
John joined Sons from Clyde after playing with Kilmarnock. When he was at Rugby Park current Sons boss Gerry McCabe and his assistant Jim Clark were on Bobby Williamson’s coaching staff.
