GERRY'S PLANS
By GARE CLYDE
REBUILDING a team damaged by departures is a think tank task which I would not like to lay a hand on, but Dumbarton boss Gerry McCabe has to have hands down on the exercise.
But that is football management and you have to get on with it in the short time, in close season, at your disposal.
Busy boss Gerry McCabe is playing the waiting game, with existing players still to put pen to paper in signing new contracts and a number of players, on his shopping list still to make up their minds whether or not to come to Dumbarton.
He said: `I have approached a number of players who have been playing in the first division and I hope that during this coming week I will have a clearer picture of the outcome of my recent talks with them. They have all agreed to come back and give me their answers.
`Obviously I will want to get matters cleared up as soon as possible. We restart training on June 26 and, in a perfect world, I would want to know then what I have and what I still need to get.
`But I am hopeful that the situation will be pretty well resolved by that time and we can get down to preparing for the new season which will be of vital importance to us.`
Breaking news is that Albion Rovers striker Davie McFarlane has verbally agreed to join the Sons and his fellow team mate at Cliftonhill, striker Jim Chaplain, is also in the frame and, although he has options, he has agreed to come back to the Sons with his final answer.
