PREMIER KILLIE ARE FIRST OPPONENTS
By Dumbarton Reporter Sport
DUMBARTON will have an early start to the new season when they kick off their pre-season preparation business with a friendly against Jim Jeffries’ premier league Kilmarnock on Monday evening.
In all, so far, they have arranged six pre-season games, with the Stirling Albion Stirlingshire Cup tie still on the back burner.
It will constitute a testing schedule for the still-incomplete Sons playing staff.
For instance, they have two games in two days when they meet Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on Friday evening, July 20 in a Stirlingshire Cup match, then line-up against premier relegated side Dunfermline Athletic the next day at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium in an afternoon fixture.
It is anticipated that during the course of these pre-season matches manager Gerry McCabe will field some trialists, players who have been training with the club during the close season and are in the assessment process.
Hopefully, by the time the matches get underway, the gaffer will have recruited a few more experienced players to add to recent signings Brian McPhee, David McFarlane and Kenny Haswell.
