VALLEY TAKE POSITIVES FROM DEFEAT
POSITIVES: Valley have impressed since joining the amateurs
Leven Valley 1 Drumchapel United 4
VALLEY may have lost the match but they took the plaudits against a strong Drumchapel outfit.
The scoreline did not do justice to the effort and work rate expelled by the inexperienced Valley side against the three times finalists in the last three years.
Post match, the Drumchapel players complimented their challengers performance which belied the fact it was their first year at this level.
Valley started well, pushing forward at every opportunity, and they took the lead after just five minutes. Muir was fouled just outside the box and Young fired home the free kick from 18-yards.
But the lead did not last long as the visitor’s equalised three minutes later when a cross was cruelly deflected past keeper McEwan.
At half-time, there was little to separate the sides and the second half started in a similar vein.
Ten minutes in, Drumchapel went ahead after a mix up in defence. Granger won the ball but McNiff took over only to lose possession and the striker shot home from 15 yards.
Ahead for the first time in the match, Drumchapel had several more chances before they netted the third on 65 minutes. Despite the ball going out of play, the referee allowed play to continue and the visitor’s converted from the cut back.
Valley never gave up and it took Drumchapel until the 80th minute to put the icing on the cake when a mistimed challenge at the back presented the fourth goal.
A disappointing result but one which won’t dishearten Valley who are making the most of their first season in amateur football.
