AN Alan Filshie hat-trick inspired Vale to a stunning romp against a sorry Stonehouse outfit.

The hard working midfielder collected the match ball for his efforts while his side guaranteed a return to Division One with a game to spare.

But the champagne is on ice until Saturday where a win away to Wishaw will ensure they return as champions.

Filshie said: “It was great to get promotion but to win the game in style was the icing on the cake.

“At the start of the season if someone had offered us promotion we would have taken it but we want to have a medal to show for our efforts and get the club back where they belong at the same time.

“In the last couple of years the club has been on a bit of a decline but the players we brought in have helped to rebuild the club.

“Now the majority of players look as if they are staying on so the signs are positive.”

Vale came close on several occasions before Filshie opened the scoring on 15 minutes.

Alan Gourlay made it 2-0 before the break, rounding the keeper after Violet passed up possession in midfield.

The second half had barely started when Gourlay grabbed his second, rounding the keeper again this time finishing with his right foot.

Kevin Montague made it four then Filshie scored two in eight minutes to seal his hat-trick.

And Thomas King rounded off the day in style with a left foot strike for number seven.
