LEVEN WITH 7 STAR SHOW
Star player Kevin Montague
Wishaw Juniors 0 Vale of Leven 7
VALE were crowned Division One champions after registering their second seven-nil demolition in as many weeks.
The stunning result gave the club its first piece of silverware in 29 years and left supporters delirious.
They were guaranteed promotion following the 7-0 rout of Stonehouse Violet last Saturday and against Wishaw, they ensured the title would be heading back to Millburn Park.
Going into the game, Vale boss Hugh Hamill told his boys the pressure was off, but with Thorniewood United players watching on in hope of a slip which would give them the silverware, there was still much to play for.
With Robert McKenzie on holiday, Hamill brought in Davie Grant into the heart of defence but otherwise named an unchanged side from the victory over Violet.
Despite the blistering sunshine, the match came dangerously close to a call-off, as one of the goalmouths on the Wishaw pitch was littered with almost 40 huge holes.
Groundstaff and even members of the Vale committee helped fill the holes – caused by none other than practising shott putters.
Such an unusual occurrence only adds to the memory of a match which Vale fans will never forget.
The thriilling tie saw a five goals from star player Kevin Montague plus goals from Alan Filshie and Alan Ferguson.
