Diamond's not Logan's friend

EXPERIENCED midfielder Raymond Logan expects a frosty reception from his wife on July 26.
This is the date of Dumbarton’s first competitive match, a challenge cup tie against Airdrie United and Logan knows his diehard Diamond supporting wife will not take kindly were he to score the winner.
The 29-year-old, who has switched between senior and junior football several times in his career, joined the Sons a fortnight ago from Pollok.
He said: “My wife really is a football fanatic. She goes every week, home and away to watch Airdrie so July 26 will be interesting in my house.
“She is a fitness freak so she gets me training on my own and eating all the right things.
“Normally she keeps me on my toes but there has been a few things mentioned about the Challenge Cup match, mainly things like poisoning my dinner.”
With a 13-week old baby boy a recent addition to the Logan family, the Motherwell-based fireman will be moving swiftly to ensure his son doesn’t follow in his mother’s footsteps.
Logan joked: “His mum might say otherwise but this boy will be supporting his dad’s team.
“We’ll need to see if we can get him a wee Dumbarton strip from the club shop as quickly as possible.”
The goal getting midfielder left Pollok where he had returned for a second stint after a season as Ayr United captain.
But while he is a natural leader on the park, he has no intentions of demanding the captain’s armband at his new club.
He said: “Being captain at Ayr was a tremendous honour for me and I had some memorable nights on Sky Sports.
“But for me, we need 11 leaders. Gordon Lennon is the captain so it is not even in the equation. I just want to come here and play well.
“Playing at the highest level is the goal for any player and for me, to get the opportunity to play for Dumbarton was too good to refuse.
“I am 30 this September so it really is last chance saloon for me to come in and do well at senior level.”
Sons boss Jim Chapman signed Logan for Hamilton as a teenager and the 6ft 1ins midfielder knocked back a more financially lucrative offer from big spending junior outfit Irvine Meadow to repay Chapman’s faith in him.
He is desperate to secure a starting slot and run out at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium (SHS), a pitch which has brought him mixed fortunes in past visits.
Logan added: “The manager is looking for guys with character. Speak to anyone who has played with me at Ayr, and the one thing you get is 110 per cent every game.
“Though sometimes the desire to do well can make you over-keen and act rashly. That was the case once at Dumbarton when I got sent off in a double sending off.
“In fact, I have a bit of history at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium as we beat Dumbarton 5-4 and I scored an overhead kick.
“The target this season is to get promotion but it is going to be tough. We need to stick together and work as a team then we will be in with a shot.”
