DUMBARTON boss Jim Chapman admitted he is delighted with his players’ fitness levels after the Sons got their pre-season off to a winning start.
Chapman watched his troops kick-start their bid for a place in Division Two with a 3-2 win over Queen’s Park last Thursday (July 10) at Lesser Hampden.
And the gaffer insisted they have what it takes to win promotion from the bottom table.
Chapman said: “I was pleased to give the players a run out and felt we played well.
He said: “Every player, apart from those carrying
niggling injuries, got to play.
“You could see that the lads enjoyed it as well, which was very pleasing.
“The fitness levels are very encouraging and if the players show the same application as they did tonight then things should be positive in the coming weeks.”
Meanwhile, Dumbarton’s trip to Ochilview to face Stenhousemuir tonight will now be a friendly match.
It had orginally been scheduled as a Stirlingshire Cup sectional tie.
