CROCKED Dumbarton striker Michael Moore may be sidelined from football — but the injury does not mean he has to give up his day job.
Hitman Moore works in a bank during the week and hopes to repay Sons manager Jim Chapman’s patience with interest when he recovers from his torn leg muscle.
Moore said: “I had my knee operation a couple of weeks ago and it’s a slow process but I hope to be back for the start of the season.
“I tore my Meniscus muscle so they had to take cartlidge. Now I need to strengthen my muscles and get up and running again so I’m ready for the first game [against Montrose].”
The 27-year-old arrived at Strathclyde Homes Stadium in January last year as Chapman’s first signing – and scored twice in seven appearances for the club before injury struck.
Despite a dismal league placing last year, Moore is confident the club has built a solid foundation ahead of next season’s campaign and insists the players who followed him through the door will impress.
He said: “The manager has the will to turn us around and no disrespect to the boys last year but I feel we have that wee bit more quality now.
“The first game was last Thursday and I was at training last week watching.
“There is definitely some good pedigree there.
“Stevie Murray can certainly play and Raymond Logan looks good. There is a good nucleus in place and it’s all about gelling now.”
Moore is a proven talent at this level, with 27 goals and a Third Division player of the year award – as part of the Stranraer championship-winning team of 2005 – under his belt.
Having won promotion in his two previous full seasons in the division, Moore is desperate to reach full fitness and help fire the Sons into the top half
of the table.
He said: “When I joined the team was struggling but I managed to open my scoring account early on.
“We were third bottom last year so things can only get better but it’s hard to tell this early.
“I just want to get fit and get some more goals.”
