DUMBARTON gaffer Jim Chapman refused to be downbeat after watching his side fall to Morton.

The Sons boss used all six of his subs during the second half and insisted the result was far less important than the positive performance.

Chapman said: “It’s not about the results as there were a lot of good signs out there.

“You have to credit Morton. They caused us a lot of problems, especially in the first half but it is a learning curve. They exploited some of our deficiencies and showed us one or two problem areas, but we reacted well.

“I rotated some players but the quality stayed the same which I’m pleased with. We have set a reasonable standard but I want to go higher.

“I don’t want to use the word disappointing — we were just a bit rusty.”

The Sons were without several influential players, which dented their attacking play.

Michael Moore remains sidelined after his recent operation and he was joined by Paul Keegan, Alan Gourlay and Liam Cusack who were all struck down with a bug.
