Paddling penalty
Fiona Pennie
ALEXANDRIA Olympian Fiona Pennie paid the penalty for missing a gate at the Shunyi slalom course in Beijing.
The 25-year-old paddler’s hopes of winning an Olympic medal were dashed as she was judged to have missed a gate in her first run, meaning a massive 50-second penalty.
Pennie’s second run was much quicker, but not enough to make up for the time lost.
So the 2006 UK champion crashed out in 17th out of the 19 athletes taking part.
She said: “After training for four years to get here, it’s pretty
heart-breaking to be honest. It’s been a great experience, but I wish I could have experienced more.”
