Jim Chapman

DUMBARTON boss Jim Chapman faced the task of picking up a demoralised dressing room on Saturday.

But he saw plenty of reason to be cheerful in spite of the home defeat. And Chapman will be expecting the same attitude from his players when they face SPL side St Mirren in the CIS cup second round clash tonight.

He said: “The players were really hurting at the end. There was a wee bit of naivety on our part as we went chasing the winner and left ourselves open at the back.

“In front of our opponents’ goal we are not being ruthless enough, though the goal Shirra scored, if it was in the Premiership we’d be raving about it.

“I am full of admiration for the fact the guys wanted to win but we have to maintain discipline at the back.” Chapman will insist his charges continue to show their battling qualities tonight against Saints, even though they won’t start the match as favourites.

He added: “I want the team to play as if their footballing lives depended on it.”
