Paul McLeod

HOTSHOT striker Paul McLeod is desperate to turn the Sons season around.

Jim Chapman pulled out all the stops to land the Hamilton Accies striker before the transfer deadline closed last Monday.

And McLeod, who spent spells on loan at Alloa Athletic and Ayr United, is on a mission to return the favour by sticking the ball in the back of the net.

Dumbarton have managed just six goals in their opening five games but McLeod is ready to improve that statistic — just as long as he gets played upfront.

He said: “Hamilton was good for me as I got to play a lot of first-team football at the top end of the First Division last season.

“But I didn’t get to play in my best position. I see myself as an out-and-out striker, but too often I was played wide on the right or the left.

“I feel confident if I get a chance for Dumbarton I will score; you can guarantee I will be doing everything I can to do just that.”

Chapman finally secured the 21-year-old’s services, having failed in two previous attempts to bring him to the club.

The Sons boss said: “It’s a great capture for Dumbarton.

“I am sure he will convert our chances into goals.”
