Time to turn it on at home

DEFENDER Ben Gordon opened his Sons account on Saturday then vowed to turn on the style at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

A comfortable victory over Rovers gave Dumbarton their second away result.

But the Sons faithful have yet to see their team record a home league win.

And the 22-year-old, who has been an ever present force at the back, hopes the confidence taken from Cliftonhill can help the side gain a similar result on home turf.

He told Sport Scene: “It was great to get a good win and of course to score my first goal was good too but we know we should be also winning at home.

“You expect to win there as we have a great fan base who are always vocal and urge us on, so we are determined to give them something back.

“In the dressing room afterwards everyone was happy with the win and it was a bit of a relief. We knew going into the game how important a win was and hopefully it will boost our confidence for Saturday.”

The former amateur defender with Strathclyde University made the move to the Rock in the summer after impressing boss Jim Chapman in pre-season.

And he was delighted to weigh in with his first goal in the gold jersey.

He added: “Obviously my job is to stop goals so whenever I can score it’s a bonus. The ball just came to me, I took a touch, and somehow got it in the bottom corner.

“I expect to get a few but not exactly a phenomenal amount. I’ll do my best but it doesn’t matter who scores, just as long as we do.”
