MARK Canning returned for the last 20 minutes against Cowdenbeath, and hopes to put his opening game injury woe behind him.
Canning, 25, has been working hard on the training ground and is now ready to push for a starting place after picking up the knock against Montrose.
He said: “It was good to get back into it after being out for about five or six weeks but my fitness is not all there yet so all I can do is get on and work as hard as I can.
“The boys are playing well and that obviously makes it harder for me to get back in the team and they played well again today so as long as the team is playing well you can’t really complain.”
Canning believes that Sons can handle the pressure of being one of the title favourites and can now look to catch Stenhousemuir who lead Division Three by five points.
He said: “I don’t see why we can’t go on a winning run, we had a problem before when we couldn’t score goals but now we seem to be scoring so hopefully we can go to Forfar next week and get a good win.
“There is always pressure on you when you play for teams like Dumbarton because we don’t deserve to be in the Third Division.
“But especially as we were favourites at the start of this season to win the league and I think some people expect us to win it at a canter but that was never going to be the case, so hopefully that’s us turned the corner and we can continue scoring goals and go on a winning run.
“[Saturday’s win] just shows you the character of the boys we have got that they always fight to the end and it’s what the manager always says — the game is never over until the referee blows the final whistle.”
