Goo can ring in New Year
Gourlay in action
SONS midfielder Alan Gourlay has more reason than most to be eagerly anticipating Hogmanay.
The one-time Bellsmyre boy has just agreed to a three-month loan deal with his former club Vale of Leven.
And with this move set to finish on December 31, the 22-year-old is focused on using the time in between to push his way back into manager Jim Chapman’s first team plans.
Goo’s return to the Millburn Park men makes him the fourth Dumbarton player to agree a short term loan with a junior side in recent weeks.
On the same day, an agreement was reached seeing long serving left-back Craig Brittain will move to Beith on a similar deal, with both players able to be recalled within 24 hours.
The duo’s moves follow youngsters Jonathon Yule and Jason McLaughlin who headed for Benburb and Greenock respectively.
Gourlay has managed just 86 minutes of league action since moving to his local club in June.
A calf injury picked up in the morale denting defeat against St Mirren sidelined the former Rangers youth players ambitions of holding down a regular place in midfield.
But the ex-Dumbarton Academy FP player refuses to be downbeat.
He said: “The aim is that the move is beneficial for myself, Dumbarton and the Vale. I’ve been back training for two weeks now and hopefully this will enable me to get back to match sharpness.
“There are no reserve games so it’s difficult to get back to the level just through training. I am looking at coming back and playing a part in the team again. I was loving it, playing infront of a big crowd and playing against really good teams.
“It takes time to get used to the step up and adapt. I felt I had done that, but my injury came at a bad time. The gaffer has said he can recall me at any time, and we’ll discuss things more at Christmas.”
