OUR NEEDS ARE GREATER

Comment Bubble Comments (0) Printer Print Article

REGARDING councillor David McBride’s reply to my letter (Reporter, January 22) I did not deny that West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) under the previous Labour/ Lib Dem Holyrood administration received a lower financial settlement than other councils.

As to the fact that Northern Rock received almost twice the Scottish Budget (£56.6b), I would assume that our local and national politicians would think that Scotland and West Dunbartonshire’s needs are as deserving as Northern Rock bankers.

It is a matter of regret that the UK chancellor Alister Darling does not seem to think so.

I am sure that all in West Dunbartonshire wish our councillors every success in obtaining a more just financial settlement from our Finance minister John Swinney.

It will be obvious to our residents that had the Scottish Government’s block grant from Westminster been equal to that of Northern Rock it would strengthen our council’s hand in negotiating a just settlement to meet the needs of our council.
