Smell fantastic with perfume and aftershave

There are so many different types of perfume and aftershave available on the market today that you have no excuse not to smell fantastic.

It used to be that men and women had a fairly limited range of perfumes and aftershaves to choose from. Most people selected a signature scent and left it at that for the rest of their lives. Now, with a market that's heaving with all sorts of divine choices in perfume and aftershave, you can have at least three different signature smells.

To start with, you need to choose the scent that will define you during the day. For the reserved lady this would be a light, possibly floral, scent with a delicate base note and for the quieter man a similar smell but with a masculine twist. Bolder personalities can carry off heavier scents during the day - this does not mean that they shouldn't consider a lighter smell, but only that they can be more adventurous.

Strong scents that have a cloying top note are usually more suitable for the evenings. The heaviness of the daytime air has been replaced by the lightness of the evening, and so a rich top note will carry beautifully in the air. Both men and women can experiment with woody and musky notes that will hold for several hours.

Of course, your choice of evening scent also depends on what you're planning to do. A night of dancing or active fun on a hot summer's evening is more suited to using your day scent, as a cloying note is likely to be too much. This is where your third signature scent comes in, and may be your secret favourite - a scent that can be used to create or enhance a specific mood.

Some women love to keep a romantic scent for those special evenings out with someone they love, or when they are dating. Certainly, more and more men are starting to tailor their aftershave choices along similar lines. Now you are just as likely to find as many aftershave bottles on a man's dresser as you would perfume bottles on a woman's.

There is no limit to the number of perfume or aftershave bottles you can collect. Nor is there any rule that says you have to have a signature smell. With new fragrances emerging from the leading perfume companies every day, you can create a collection as big or as small as you want.

Another idea that works very well for when you first start out in choosing your favourites is to buy collections of miniatures. Many brands offer miniature sets of perfume and aftershave that last for a surprisingly long period of time and give you plenty of opportunity to see how the different scents sit on your skin.

Perfume and aftershave come in three notes - top, heart and base. The base note lasts the longest while the top note is the first to leap off your skin, and the heart note is the one that holds them together. The notes work in tandem to deliver an evocative and exciting scent that's all about you.

Finding your signature scent is now an adventure in smell and taste thanks to the huge range of perfume and aftershave available today.
