Stephen Kirkwood has had his music played by world famous DJs such as Paul Van Dyk, Judge Jules, Beat Service and Andy Moore.

His latest single “The Blitz”, written after hearing his grandmother’s experiences in WW2, has been rising steadily through the Beatport chart.

Known in Dumbarton for being the brains behind “Culture” — the town’s first dance event — the former joiner told the Reporter: “The reception the single has had already has been immense. It’s been played by some of the world’s biggest acts, which is just amazing. I’ve just signed up to a management company, so hopefully this is just the beginning.” Working in the music industry for 10 years now, Stephen has just moved to a new studio on Castlegreen Street.

“I’ve been working in music professionally since I was 18, promoting nights, and from that I got into DJing and producing. Some people see it as a way of feeding their ego, but I really try to stay clear of it all and just do my thing.” “The Blitz” was released on iTunes and Spotify yesterday (Monday) after promos sent out by Stephen’s record label were warmly received by the industry.

Stephen said his rise to fame has actually helped his nerves when releasing tracks. He added “Every track is different, I’m always very picky with my own stuff, I always think it can be improved. I’m not so critical when working with other people because you havent got the time to be so pedantic about everything.” Signed to Lange Recordings, a label under Enhanced Music which is arguably one of the biggest dance music labels in the world, Steven’s showing no signs of slowing down: “Next year I’m thinking of expanding and producing more tracks. If they like it, they sign it, they do all the distributions and I can concentrate of producing and DJ-ing. There has been some international interest and I’ve just done interviews with dance magazines in South Africa and Belgium, so I’m hoping to get some gigs a bit further afield, now we’re laying the foundations.”
