Police have issued a renewed public appeal for assistance to trace missing man William Miller, one month after he was last seen in the Vale.

The 62-year-old, known as Billy, disappeared from his home in the Balfron area on Wednesday, January 6 and later that day he was captured on CCTV in the Tesco store in Milngavie at around 1.15pm.

He was last seen at the BP garage in Main Street, Jamestown, Alexandria, at around 12.20am on Thursday, January 7 after spending most of the evening in Fentons Public House which is situated on the same road.

A team of police officers have been conducting extensive enquiries and have been supported by specialist units in their search for Billy.

The information received has focussed the search on Dumbarton, Alexandria and Milngavie, where he was last seen, however enquiries have also been made in Dunoon where is believed to have contacts.

Chief Inspector Graeme MacDiarmid said: “It has now been one month since William went missing and I can’t stress enough how important information from members of the public is to our investigation.

“I would continue to appeal anyone who may have seen William over the past month to come forward. Particularly if you were in Fentons Public House on the evening of January 6 and have not provided a statement to police, we want to hear from you to ensure we have as much information as possible about the night William was last seen.

“I would also continue to urge members of the public to keep an eye out for William in the Dumbarton, Alexandria, Milngavie and Dunoon areas as well as checking sheds, garages or outhouses in case he has taken shelter within.

“Anyone with information on William’s whereabouts can contact police on 101.”

Billy, who is originally from West Dunbartonshire, is described as 5ft10 to 6ft tall and of medium build.

When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue and grey t-shirt and a black waterproof jacket with a ‘Douglas Park’ logo on the left breast.

He was also carrying a distinctive small black rucksack with light blue panels and normally wears a white-faced analogue watch with a brown leather strap.

In January, his niece, Eva McGregor, 30, told a news conference her family wanted "uncle Billy" to get in touch.

The news conference at Dumbarton Police Office was attended by Ms McGregor and her parents, Eva, 61, who is Mr Miller's sister, and her 62-year-old husband James.

Mr Miller's niece, Eva McGregor, appealed for help in finding him.

She said: "It is very out of character for him not to return home and for us not to have heard from him for this length of time."
