A Burger King customer got a Whopper of a shock in her meal last week when she opened it to find bite marks in her burger.

Donna MacLean, from Dumbarton, was disgusted with the discovery and drove straight back to the burger outlet at the Great Western Road Retail Park in Clydebank to complain and claims she was told it was just staff "having a laugh".

She told the Reporter the shift manager told her it was "one of the lads in the back having a laugh" and she felt he didn't take her complaint seriously enough.

She said: "It was gross. I couldn't believe it when I unwrapped it. It was half-eaten. As soon as I unwrapped it it took it back to the shop.

"I complained to the shift manager, who didn't deny it and said it was on of the staff in the back having a laugh.

"I told him it was unacceptable."

Donna said she did not feel the shift manager was taking her complaint seriously and claims he did not apologise until he realised she wasn't going to go away.

He offered a replacement then refund for the meals.

She bought the two Whopper meals on Monday, February 1, for herself and her son Fraser Marshall, 13.

She said: "My son had scoffed his burger and when he realised what was wrong with mine he was felt a bit ill.

"The first thing the shift manager did was offer to replace the meals and I told him I didn't want to eat anything that had been made on the premises.

"I've complained to them and to Environmental Health who said they would send an inspector.

"I want an acknowledgement that what happened was completely unacceptable and to know that there has been some discipline."

Both Burger King and Glasgow City Council's Environmental Health department are investigating.

A Burger King spokeswoman said: "Providing a superior guest experience is a top priority at Burger King restaurants globally. We have been made aware of the alleged incident that occurred at the Great Western Road Retail Park Burger King restaurant and we take these allegations very seriously.

"Working with the franchisee who independently owns and operates this location, we launched an immediate investigation and appropriate action will be taken."

A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the complaint which our Environmental Health is now investigating.”
