The second matches in the CDBA Gents League were played on Friday, May 20, in miserable weather conditions. Early leaders Old Kilpatrick followed up last week’s excellent result with another convincing victory, this time over Yarrow. Radnor Park and Singer, after drawing in the first match, both had comfortable wins over Scotstounhill and Clydebank respectively. Dalmuir did their best to put last week’s disastrous result behind them and edged out Yoker 9-5. In the other match, Albion defeated Victoria Park 12-2. Full details of the results from Week 2 were as follows: Albion 12 Victoria Park 2, Singer 9 Clydebank 5, Dalmuir 9 Yoker 5, Old Kilpatrick 10 Yarrow 4, Radnor Park 11 Scotstounhill 3. The League standing after two matches are as follows: 1. Old Kilpatrick 24, 2. Radnor Park 18 points, 3. Singer/Albion 16 points, 5. Clydebank 15 points, 6. Yarrow 14 points, 7= Scotstounhill/Yoker 11 points, 9. Dalmuir 9 points, 10. Victoria Park 6 points. The Week 3 league matches will be played on Friday, May 27, and the fixtures are as follows: Albion v Yoker, Clydebank v Dalmuir, Old Kilpatrick v Victoria Park, Radnor Park v Yarrow, Singer v Scotstounhill.

The Week 4 matches in the David Syme Senior League were played on Monday, May 16. Leaders Clydebank maintained their unbeaten record after sharing the points at Old Kilpatrick and remain in pole position. After a poor start to the senior season, Dalmuir managed to record an away victory at previously unbeaten Albion. Radnor Park achieved their third draw out of four matches away at Yoker and Singer lost at home to Yarrow. The results of the Week 4 league matches were as follows: Albion 0 Dalmuir 4, Old Kilpatrick 2 Clydebank 2, Victoria Park 4 Scotstounhill 0, Yoker 2 Radnor Park 2, Singer 0 Yarrow 4. The missing result from Week 3 was Dalmuir 0 Victoria Park 4. The David Syme League standings after four matches are as follows: 1. Clydebank 14 points, 2= Albion/Radnor Park 10 points, 4. Singer/Old Kilpatrick/Yarrow/Victoria Park 8 points, 8= Yoker/Dalmuir 6 points, 10. Scotstounhill 2 points.

The Week 5 matches in the David Syme League were due to be played on Monday 23rd May and the fixtures were: Yoker v Albion, Clydebank v Dalmuir, Victoria Park v Old Kilpatrick, Yarrow v Radnor Park, Scotstounhill v Yoker.

The week 6 matches will be played on Monday, May 30, and are as follows: Albion v Victoria Park, Dalmuir v Yoker, Old Kilpatrick v Yarrow, Singer v Clydebank, Radnor Park v Scotstounhill.

District News

There are only a few matches on at District Clubs this weekend. Saturday: Clydebank – Bowls & Pakora Day (2pm), Old Kilpatrick – Paul Lucas Memorial Pairs (10am), Sunday: Scotstounhill – Mixed Pairs (9.30am).

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association

The Round 2 matches in the various DBA knockout competitions were played on Tuesday, May 17.

The results can be summarised as follows: Junior Singles – Milngavie beat Yoker, Singer B beat Old Kilpatrick, Dalmuir beat Radnor Park (w/o), Clydebank beat Singer A (w/o), Gents Singles – Milngavie 21 Old Kilpatrick 5, Singer 21 Strathblane 11, Radnor Park 21 Killermont 4, Clydebank beat Westerton, Pairs – Singer 16 Radnor Park 11, Claremont beat Yoker, Old Kilpatrick beat Killermont, Dalmuir 18 Milngavie 16, Triples – Clydebank 22 Kilermont 6, Radnor Park beat Singer, Albion 23 Claremont 4, Milngavie beat Old Kilpatrick, Gents Fours – Westerton 18 Kilermont 11, Old Kilpatrick beat Clydebank, Singer beat Albion, Milngavie 17 Dalmuir 16.

Bowls Scotland

The Week 2 matches in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy were played on Saturday, May 21. In the South Section, the Dumbartonshire East team had their second successive away match after losing out to Andrew Hamilton Trophy holders Lanarkshire South last week.

The match against Stewartry was played at Dalbeattie BC and DBA East achieved a convincing 140-85 victory. The other results from the South section were: Renfrewshire South 110 Dumfriesshire 116, Glasgow South 106 Lanarkshire South 150, Wigtownshire 121 Ayrshire South 115. After two matches, Lanarkshire South and Dumfriesshire are on the maximum four points. On Saturday, May 28, DBA East play their first home match of the competition.

Their match against Wigtownshire will be played at Campsie B.C.

In the West Section, both Dumbartonshire West and Glasgow West recorded excellent victories. DBA West beat Clackmannan & Kinross 118-96 at Renton BC and Glasgow West won 125-100 away against Stirling County West, the match taking place at Dunblane B.C.

These results leave DBA West joint top of the West Section along with Lanarkshire West and Ayrshire North. This Saturday, Glasgow West play at Kelvindale BC against Lanarkshire West and DBA West are away at Argyll 7 Bute.
