A HELENSBURGH man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after he failed to pay a fine imposed for shouting and swearing at police and resisting arrest.

Kyle Bewley, 25, who lives at West Princes Street in the town was appearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court after failing to pay a £270 fine. The financial penalty had been imposed on Bewley for the offences which took place on November 1, 2014. On that date in Nursery Street in Helensburgh he shouted, swore and behaved in an aggressive manner towards three police officers and then struggled violently, tensing his arms and lashing out with his arms and legs to avoid being handcuffed.

When he appeared back in court from custody Sheriff Simon Pender asked Bewley why he had failed to pay the fine imposed on him. Bewley told the sheriff that he had become homeless in January this year and had struggled financially because of that but hoped a new payment plan could be put in place.

The sheriff gave him no further time to pay and imposed a community payback order instead.

Bewley will now have to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work in the community within the next four months.
