Scotland's only Highland Games triathlon and some awe-inspiring heavyweight championship events will be among the main attractions at Saturday's Loch Lomond Highland Games on Saturday.

The flagship annual attraction in Moss O' Balloch Park boasts the full panoply of traditional Games contests – and a £15,000 prize fund - including jumping, cycling, wrestling, and heavyweight events of ball, hammer, weight and caber, not to mention the Highland dancing and pipe band competitions.

Dawn's Dance Academy girls Paris McCrae, 8, Niamh Marsland, 6 and Kasey Morrison, 9, - who aim to impress in the Highland dancing event - joined up with heavyweight star David Hume to urge local residents to be there on the day.

Renton Primary pupil Paris said: “We always look forward to this competition because it’s our home event and it means all our friends and family can come to watch.

West Dunbartonshire Provost Douglas McAllister said: “The Loch Lomond Highland Games offers something to keep everyone entertained and is a fantastic family day out.

“Visitors travel from far and wide to enjoy the various events on show, and the ‘heavies’ competition always draws in the crowds.

“Make sure you get along early to soak up all the action and let’s hope the sun is shining on Balloch as it has in previous years.”

As usual there will be a wide assortment of trade stalls outside the main arena, selling all sorts of goods, besides food and drink.

The day ends with a massed pipe band march through Balloch's main street.

Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children and over 60s, and £13 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children).
