THE CARDROSS Autumn Beach Clean saw a larger number of volunteers than usual collect 20 bags of rubbish.

The Cardross Community Council have been organising twice-yearly beach cleans for many years and organisers were pleased to see volunteer turnout up on the usual numbers and believe the fine weather may have helped.

Among the volunteers was a large group from 1st Cardross Scouts and organisers are particularly grateful for their enthusiastic participation in the event.

The clean went well and Argyll and Bute Council assisted by providing volunteers with gloves, bags and grabbers.

20 bags of rubbish were collected on Saturday, along with other larger items. Of the bagged rubbish approximately 70 percent was plastic bottles and plastic packaging, 20 percent was aluminium cans, 5 percent was glass and the remaining 5 percent was other small items which included cotton bud stems and the odd shoe.

Larger items included a gas cylinder, a car wheel, a traffic cone, plywood sheets, pallets and various large plastic containers and parts.

Very few plastic bags were found and the amount of rubbish collected was less than that of the last Autumn Beach Clean.

Organisers are immensely grateful to those who gave up their Saturday morning to help clean the beach and they hope that they all return for the next event in April.
