STUDENTS at Dalreoch Primary school held a Macmillan coffee morning in honour of a janitor at the school who passed away this summer.

Students and staff raised £333 in the name of former janitor Joyce Easton, who worked at the school for several years. The money raised was given to the Oncology Unit at the vale of Leven Hospital to support their work.

The event, which was organised by learning assistant Jane Cameron alongside the parent council, renamed Friends of Dalreoch, was a hailed as a great success.

Miss Cameron said: "We did well even though we're a small school. We got plenty of help from the parents and we worked with charity shops who gave us a great deal on supplies, like china for the tea.

"The parents were great, they had just done another cake sale at Dumbarton Academy a few days before hand so this was their second event in 10 days! They were amazing."

Macmillan coffee mornings are run all over the UK to raise money to fight cancer. They can be done in small groups or large ones, like the school chose which was also part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning event run by Macmillan. They can be held at any time of year however.

There was lots on at the school's coffee morning with games for the children and 'Guess the sprinkles on the cake'. People made donation to have a guess and the winner took half of the money raised with the other half going to Macmillan along with the other money raised.

Miss Cameron added: "We would like to thank the charity shops and the parents for all of their support, we wouldn't have been so successful without them."
