All P7 pupils and staff from eight learning community primary schools were at Vale of Leven Academy last week for the launch of a West Dunbartonshire wide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) transition project.

This programme is being facilitated by the EDT (Engineering Development Trust) and funded by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Primary pupils are going to be working on an energy related project and the programme has been designed to promote learning across several curricular areas in science, technology, mathematics and health and wellbeing.

The pupils will be supported in their primary schools by 18 senior mentors who are all Advanced Higher pupils studying Biology, Chemistry and / or Physics.

The pupils were also joined by some P6 pupils involved in the event last week too.

A spokesperson for Vale of Leven Academy said: "The senior pupils are using this experience to develop their leadership skills and inspire and support younger pupils in STEM.

"This project is happening in all five secondary schools in West Dunbartonshire and all 33 primary schools."
