Five people have been taken to hospital after a report of a disturbance in Alexandria.

Police were called to premises in Heather Avenue, at around 2.25pm on Saturday.

Officers said five people appeared to have been taken ill and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

It is understood that no violence was involved in the incident.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it received an emergency call to the scene from police.

Four ambulances and the special operations response team attended, with the first vehicle arriving within seven minutes of the call being received, an ambulance spokesman said.

He added: "Five patients have been conveyed to hospitals. They have been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital."

The age and gender of the patients has not been released and their conditions are not known.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
