A BODY found near the Erskine Bridge has been confirmed as that of missing man William McKenna.

The 39-year-old disappeared on July 19 after being spotted on CCTV at around 12.30pm outside his home address.

Alarms were raised after William did not return to his home on Durban Avenue, Dalmuir, to look after his beloved dog Zack, who family said he would never leave behind.

William was originally from Dumbarton but he moved to Clydebank five years ago.

Extensive inquiries were carried out by Clydebank Police and during a search of a wooded area in Bishopton, near to the Erskine Bridge, on November 29 last year his remains were discovered at around 3.10pm.

A post mortem was carried out and there were no suspicious circumstances surrouding his death.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector David Quinn, of Clydebank Police, said: "I would like to thank the public for their response to the missing persons enquiry.

"Understandably, William's family are very upset at this tragic news and I would like to ask they are given the time to grieve their loss.

"Our thoughts are with them at this time."
