A MAN has been taken to hospital after taking a severe reaction to medication.

The Reporter has learned that emergency services were called to a property in the O'Hare area of Bonhill at around 11.30pm last night to tend to the man.

It's understood the man was taken to hospital for treatment and inquiries are continuing.

His present condition is unknown.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report of a male in O'Hare who had taken a funny turn after taking medication.

"Police and ambulance attended and the man was taken to hospital.

"Inquiries are continuing in relation to what the medication was."

Last night's incident comes just three days after five people were taken to hospital following an incident in Alexandria.

Around 2.25pm hours on Saturday, January 14, police were called to an incident within a premises in Heather Avenue, Alexandria.

Emergency services attended and found five people had taken unwell.

Two men, aged 28 and 36, and a 40 year old woman were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

A 31 year-old man and a 33 year-old woman were also taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Detective Inspector Andy Doherty from Clydebank CID said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and how these people came to be unwell, however at this time we believe all five had taken prescription medication mixed with a quantity of alcohol and other drugs.

"I would like to reassure the local community that there was no violence involved in this incident.

"Anyone with information regarding the illegal distribution of prescribed medication in the West Dunbartonshire area is asked to contact Clydebank CID via 101."
