IT was a perfect day to stretch the legs and get some fresh air in the lungs when Friends of Levengrove Park organised a special event designed to update everyone on a multi million pound restoration.

Saturday saw a 'Walk in the Park,' which helped keep local people informed about the work that's about to be carried out at Levengrove Park.

Scores of people turned out with their children- some even with their pet dogs- as they met at Kilmahew Fountain before setting off on a leisurely walk around the park.

West Dunbartonshire Council recently secured £2.8m in Heritage Lottery Funding for the restoration of Levengrove Park but in total the project is expected to cost around £3.6m.

Work on the restoration is due to commence in May with an expected completion date of May 2018.

The restoration programme will include a new pavilion, restoration of Kilmahew fountain, improvements to St Serf’s Church, a new children’s playpark, improved lighting and paths, and interpretation panels to mention a few.

The Friends of Levengrove Park, in association with West Dunbartonshire Council Greenspace department, were keen to keep the community up to date as work progresses and organised Saturday's event as a preview of what to expect.

On the day those who turned out got the chance to meet some members of the Friends group and the Project Lead Officer, who provided more detail relating to the various aspects of the restoration project.

Chair of the Friends of Levengrove Park, Linda Adam, said: "Thirty members of the community braved the very cold temperature on Saturday to participate in the Walk in the Park event hosted by the Friends of Levengrove Park.

"The purpose of the event was not only to afford an opportunity to meet with members of the Friends group, but also to inform the community about the developments

which will be taking place in the park in forthcoming months as a result of the Heritage Lottery Funding which has been secured by West Dunbartonshire Council.

"The walk was led by Donald Petrie, Access Officer with West Dunbartonshire Council and included outlining the work to be done in relation to Kilmahew Fountain, the

park gates, childrens' playparks, Pavilion, Shear's Well and the depot within the park. "Those in attendance also expressed their views and had their questions answered."

Linda added: "The Friends of Levengrove Park were delighted at the number of people who attended, despite the weather and large sports fixtures taking place, and hope they found it informative."
