STRUGGLING Dumbarton High Street could be in for a major boost with the opening of a new Virgin store.
The possibility of opening in one of the Burgh’s vacant shops follows ntl Telewest being relaunched as Virgin Media.
The project has been described as “a new force in entertainment and communications”.
Behind the venture is billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, who is pledging to “shake up” the entertainment industry.
Included are plans to take on competitors in the high street through a major retail initiative in addition to the existing Virgin Mobile shops.
He announced last week that he plans to offer thousands of consumers in the Dumbarton area “quality, value, innovative products and outstanding customer service”.
A Virgin Media spokesman said: “For the first time one company will be able to deliver a simple one-stop solution to meet consumers’ entertainment and communications needs in Dumbarton, providing digital TV services, unlimited broadband, homephone and feature-packed mobile service.
