THE Vale of Leven Hospital saw it’s out of hours GP service shut down for the third weekend in a row on Sunday.

The service was unstaffed between 08.30am and 4pm on Sunday, meaning anyone who needed the GP at that time was being sent to Gartnavel or RAH.

Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie told the Reporter: “You would think by now they would have learned that there needs to be a fix for the issue but it seems the problem is ongoing.”

A statement release by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “There have been occasions when no GP has been available to cover a specific centre. In response to this ongoing pressure the GP OOH team have developed initial thoughts on options to address these pressures.

“A full range of options will be developed and considered in a full review of the service that the six Health and Social Care Partnership Chief Officers covering our area are commissioning to explore how the service might be made more sustainable.

“We continued to have medical staffing issues resulting in us moving GPs from site to site to provide a service and reduce any impact on patient care.”
