Europharma, one of the world’s leading developers of fish health and welfare programmes, visited the University of Stirling to help students explore career paths in the aquaculture industry.

Two members of Europharma attended the Aquaculture Careers 2017 Event and are former graduates of the university’s Institute of Aquaculture. Fraser Howarth, Sales Support Administrator of Europharma, and Sean Black, Fish Health Advisor of Europharma both spent time at the aquaculture hub before embarking on their careers with the Clydebank-based company.

The duo went along to the event on Tuesday 18 April to speak to students about the importance of making connections in the industry and the array of career prospects available in aquaculture here in Scotland.

Their presentation consisted of an introduction to both Europharma and Fishguard, a unique service of diagnostic fish health services that helps prevent, diagnose and treat fish health issues; and Supersmolt, a state-of-the-art monitoring service Europharma provide to customers. Fraser and Sean also discussed the importance of working together to reinforce Europharma’s vision and commitment of having a Complete Fish Health solution.

Fraser said: “Presenting at the Institute of Aquaculture was a great opportunity to meet and speak with the people who are going to be the future of the industry. It was great being back at our old stomping ground as we know exactly what the students are experiencing and we are in a great position to give advice that will hopefully set them up for a successful career in aquaculture.

“Sean and I both started our careers at Europharma following graduation so understand what students need to know in terms of stepping on the ladder of employment, so we hope the advice and information we gave proves useful for the students.”

The conference heard from a variety of companies based in Scotland that work in the aquaculture industry from vets and fish producers to environmental bodies.
