A BELLSMYRE man has been jailed for six months for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner during an incident at East End Park.

Stuart Ballantyne, 29, of Murroch Avenue, appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, April 18.

He admitted that on February 25 this year, at East End Park, Dumbarton, he did behave in a threatening or abusive manner, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm in that he did shout and swear.

Sentence was deferred.

Scott Simpson, the fiscal depute, told the court how the offence happened at 5pm when police went to investigate reports of a man who was apparently intoxicated.

They found Ballantyne and he was taken into Clydebank police office where he was charged.

Roddy Boag, Ballantyne’s defence solicitor, said in mitigation: “Clearly, at the time he was drinking too much and was not in control of his behaviour.”

Referring to the background report on Ballantyne Mr Boag said: “The report is not particularly positive.

“He’s not trying to blame anyone else in relation to this, it’s his responsibility.

“His plea was tendered at the intermediate diet and he’s been in custody since February 27.”

Sheriff William Gallacher sentenced Ballantyne, who previously served a two-year sentence for possession of a knife and was under supervision after his release, was sentenced to six months in prison, backdated to February 27.
